FAQs

What ages are welcome at your co-op?

All kids, ages newborn to 18, are welcome to participate in our co-op.

What are the co-op hours?

We are open Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 am-3:00 pm. Arrival and departure times are totally flexible, based on what works best for your family.

Cleanup usually begins at 2:30. Opening and closing volunteers may need to arrive before and/or stay after co-op operating hours.

Where are you located?

We meet at the Harford Park Community Association hall in Parkville, MD 21234, fairly close to the intersection of Old Harford Road and Northern Parkway.

Will my child follow a daily schedule?

We do not follow a specific curriculum or daily schedule. All activities are student-directed, parent-facilitated and may include any of the following:

–outside play: playing tag, biking (bring your own bike!), playing in the mud outside the hall, or playing in the stream or at the park

–inside play: LEGO, air hockey, creating real-world scenarios such as a bake shop, chess, performing shows, creating art or conducting science experiments.

–socializing: debating, hanging out

What if we don’t unschool at home? Can we still attend your co-op?

YES! The families in our co-op approach homeschooling from a variety of approaches but all value the experience that our unschooling co-op offers to their child(ren).

What if my child has a disability?

We accept and welcome all abilities. Unschooling allows children the freedom to be themselves and learn at their own pace. Unfortunately, the hall is not wheelchair-accessible.

When can I enroll in co-op?

We enroll throughout the year. Tuition is prorated beginning 30 days after the start of each semester. We offer (and encourage!) a complimentary week’s visit (2 days). Please contact us to arrange a visit to tour our facility and ask any questions you may have.

How much is tuition? Do you offer any discounts?

Please visit our tuition page for fee/discount information.

What is your sick policy?

We use the following guidelines to minimize the spread of germs in our co-op:

Your child may safely attend co-op if he/she:

  • Has generalized complaints of illness without any specific symptoms like vomiting, fever or diarrhea.
  • Has a mild cough or cold without fever.
  • Has been fever free for 24 hours without medication.
  • Has a stomachache without fever, vomiting or diarrhea.

Your child should be kept home from co-op if he/she:

  • Has a fever of more than 99 degrees.
  • Has vomited 2 or more times.
  • Has diarrhea.
  • Has had a known exposure to an illness.

What is your photo policy?

While we do take and share photos of our community, parents and students, we never use names or tag people. Should you join our co-op, you will be asked if you want to complete and sign a Photo Release Form. You are not obligated or required to allow photos to be shared and may opt out at any time should you change your mind.

What is your inclement weather policy?

We adhere to the following guidelines:

  • If Baltimore County Public Schools are closed, we will be closed.
  • If Baltimore County Public Schools are opening late, we will open on time.
  • If Baltimore County Schools are closing early, we will close early.
